Professor Emeritus Glenn Finger is an Adjunct Professor of Education at Griffith University and was previously the Dean (Learning and Teaching) of the Arts, Education and Law Group from 2011-2015, the Deputy Dean (Learning and Teaching) of the Faculty of Education from 2007-2010, and the Deputy Director, Centre for Learning Research from 2005-2006. Prior to his appointment at Griffith University in 1999, Professor Finger had served with Education Queensland for more than 24 years as a physical education specialist, primary school teacher, Deputy Principal and Acting Principal in a wide variety of educational settings. Professor Glenn Finger has provided sustained contributions to schooling in Queensland and Australia through his role on various consultancies, research initiatives and committees.

He has researched and published extensively on digital technologies and learning and teaching, with more than 100 publications. He has also been awarded numerous Outstanding Paper Awards at key International and national conferences. His academic standing was recognised in being assigned the role of the Chair of the Research and Evaluation Working Group of the Australian Government $8million Teaching Teachers for the Future Project, involving 39 Higher Education Institutions which provide initial teacher education programs.

Glenn has years of experience as a presenter both nationally and internationally. Recent highlights include:

Industry Experience

  • Awards: For his outstanding University teaching focusing on technologies, Glenn has won various teaching awards and citations, including the QSITE Fuji Xerox Outstanding Leader of the Year Award in 2014, the Ann Thompson TPACK Award in 2013, the Australian Learning and Teaching Council Award for Teaching Excellence (Social Sciences) in 2009, Australian Teacher Education Association Pearson Education Teacher Educator of the Year in 2008, and an Australian Learning and Teaching Council Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning in 2008. 
  • Professional Memberships:  Glenn is a member of the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) General Capabilities Advisory Group, a member of the Department of Education and Training, Queensland, Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools Board (2008-present), and was a member of the Professional Standards Committee of the Queensland College of Teachers from 2007-2011. He is a Fellow and Life Member of the Australian College of Educators, and was the President of the Australian College of Educators QLD Branch and a member of National Council from 2010-2012, a Fellow of the Australian Council for Educational Leaders Queensland. He is also a member of the Australian Council for Computers in Education, the Australian Teacher Educators Association, and the Queensland Society for Information Technology in Education. 

Research Expertise

Glenn’s research expertise includes technologies and learning, technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK), digital storytelling and ePortfolios, and Technology Education. His journal article "What drives a successful e-Learning?" has been identified as the #1 most influential journal article on eLearning in the past decade.
