I am passionate about supporting beginning teachers to learn the skills required to think critically about their work and to develop confidence to challenge inequity in education systems
Dr Loraine McKay has been a classroom teacher for over 20 years, teaching from Year 1 to Year 7, predominately in multi-age or composite groupings. As a teacher she also held roles as Key Teacher-behaviour management; Literacy Coach; and Curriculum Development Officer. Loraine's research interest stems from her teaching career. Her research focus is on building teachers' capacity to develop inclusive classrooms and to bridge the theory-practice divide between universities and schools. This interest resulted from her own teaching career where in her first year she was told to accept a child would not reach her full potential beacuse of her hearing impairment. Her other research focus is relating to improving the outcomes of students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Loraine has been involved in school partnerships as a consultant on teacher capacity building. She is currently supporting teachers in a junior secondary school who are implementing an intervention plan for students who are not experiencing success at school. Loraine recently assisted in the presentation of the state-wide webinar on the teaching of reading for adolescents which was part of the Leading Change project.
