I am committed to helping schools and teachers provide all young people with the highest quality health and physical education possible

Dr Ben Williams is a Lecturer in Health and Physical Education at Griffith University. Before moving into the tertiary sector, Ben was a secondary school HPE teacher in Brisbane. His PhD research explored the issues associated with the outsourcing of HPE and school sport, and his current research examines the ways that different forms of evidence are used to teach people about their health in innovative campaigns and programs. Ben is a member of the Griffith Institute for Educational Research and is also President of the Australian Council of Health, Physical Education and Recreation’s (ACHPER) Queensland branch.

Research Expertise

Ben’s research focuses on the ways in which people learn, and are taught, about health, physical activity, and their body. This research covers a variety of formal and informal settings like school programs, public health campaigns, and digital media, among others. To do this, Ben draws on ideas and findings from the social sciences and the humanities, particularly the field of science and technology studies. Through his research, Ben has worked with government departments of education and health. He has also worked closely with government and nongovernment schools, state sporting organisations, privately-run sport and recreation organisations, advertising agencies, and market researchers.
