Dr Glenda McGregor is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education and Professional Studies at Griffith University, Brisbane. She convened the Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary) Program for six years and has been an active member of a number of other committees. Her most recent appointment is as Deputy Head of School (Academic).

Glenda has presented at many local, national and international conferences including the annual conferences for the following groups:

  • The Youth Affairs Network of Queensland;
  • The Australian Association for Research in Education (AARE);
  • The British Educational Research Association (BERA) and
  • The European Educational Research Association' (EERA). 

In 2015, she was an invited keynote speaker at a conference on ‘Research on upper secondary education’, School of Education, University of Iceland, Reykjvik

Industry Experience

Glenda is a reviewer for a range of academic journals that include the International Journal of Inclusive Education, Discourse: Studies in the Cultural Politics of Education and Pedagogy Culture and Society. Since commencing her teaching career in the late seventies, Glenda has worked extensively on a variety of Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (previously Queensland Studies Authority) review panels and committees. She has been a member of the State Review Panel for Modern History since 1994. 

Most recently in 2015, she was an invited member of Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA), History, Senior Curriculum and Assessment Working Group. Their task was to facilitate consultation with stakeholders about prospective changes to Senior Schooling processes in Queensland, particularly as they are likely to affect Senior History subjects in secondary schools. Glenda has also been involved in the development of curriculum at a national level. In May 2009, she was an appointed member of the History Advisory Panel for the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA). 

Glenda is a long standing member of the Youth Affairs Network of Queensland (YANQ) Youth Re-engagement Policy Advisory Group.

Research Expertise

Glenda's research interests include sociology of youth, alternative schools, pedagogy and curriculum and, social justice and education. She is currently working on two major research projects on alternative and democratic models of schooling funded by the Australian Research Council. Her recent book co-authored with Martin Mills is ‘Re-engaging Young People in Education: Learning from alternative schools’, published by Routledge. Glenda has been a research partner in a number of significant projects which include:
