My research and teaching work is about making a difference to the quality of vet and adult education in Australia

Dr Steven Hodge is a senior lecturer in Professional, Vocational and Continuing Education at Griffith University. Steven conducts research in Vocational Education and Training (VET) and allied areas and has a long standing interest in competency based training and alternative models of curriculum for VET. Prior to moving into the tertiary sector Steven worked in the education and training area, starting with a role in a Group Training organisation and working in diverse roles as a program designer, trainer and manager.

Steven's career spans all education sectors, with recent experience in private and public training providers in curriculum design, training and management roles.

Research Expertise

Steven's research has focused on deep learning in VET as well as curriculum policy and curriculum development in VET, including competency-based approaches. He uses mixed methods research and a range of techniques and tools to answer research questions. He is currently working on a National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) project investigating the contribution of the student placement process to innovation. Recent projects include:
